Black and White Conversion

Sometimes an image just looks great in black and white.

When shooting with colour RAW files or JPEG, or scans of film it takes precise calibration and tweaking to get the right contrast and tonal range from an image, which does justice to the subject and the mood of the photograph.

When achieved well the mood of an image can be immensely enhanced by the conversion, where the the photograph removed from its colour contaminants can be more crisp as well as moody.

Here at Old Gravity we use varied techniques in achieving the best possible black and white tonal range for your coloured source.

Raw Image Editing

Our modern day cameras are good, but still they need that extra tweaking to get the right balance for a photograph.

It maybe the colours are a bit off, or the sharpness is not right, or the subject needs that extra emphasis for it to pop-out.

With precise masking and editing an image can seem more true to life than what we get out of the camera.

Then there is the story-teller who knows the end, and with right editing the picture can speak volumes or if wished none.

Creative Colouring

With the advent of new digital tools, and where technology is taking us we have already surpassed the time of simpler manipulations to the period where the studio for a great part is now virtual.

Now the possibilities of art, and photography are endless, where one's imagination is the limit, and equipped with proper planning, design, work-flow, great artworks can be generated.

I personally am an artist-photographer so with my digital skills as well as artistic background I can assist my clients in achieving their creative goals, however outlandish they might be.

Old Photo Restoration

We love digital cameras for its flexibility, range and so many benefits, but there is something about an old photograph which cannot be described. The photograph of a loved one when he or she was young, or yourself as a child, or you as a professional photographer might have all your work on old negatives, positives or just print.

However when we look closely, time has not been kind to our cherished images, and they need the special care to optimally scan them and restore them digitally.

If done with proper technique, care and diligence an old image can surpass its original form, and coupled with archival printing, the image can last for generations to come.

Negative Scanning & Restoration

Silver gelatin printing or other alternative printing techniques can give amazing results but with the world now shared across a digital backbone, it is vital to get optimally edited and digitized scans of your film negatives or positives.

All files at Old Gravity Printing are scanned at 16-bit, 4000dpi on a dedicated film scanner to give optimal tonal range.

Then coupled with the most premium archival digital inkjet printing technology available you can get exceptional prints from your film negatives or positives, that are easily reprinted or available to share across a digital global platform.
